I hope you have had a good summer. I have met with Richard and we are both looking forward to the first rehearsal of the new season next Monday. We will meet around 6:45 for a social gathering in the lobby of the gym to welcome back all GCB members and those who are coming to play with us for the first time. In addition to a few new people, I am expecting a few who were not able to play with us for some or all of last year. Please bring a little food to share if you are able. I will bring plates and cups and will ask some to bring drinks.
Below are some the new pieces I would like to get through Monday night.
I wanted to let everyone know that the wind ensemble that played at the Coca-Cola Collector’s Convention did a fantastic job. The convention organizer said it was just what she was hoping for and donated $325 to the band for our participation.
Again, I am looking forward to seeing you.
Jack Randall
MARCH WINDS ARE BLOWING!
Help us celebrate spring and participate in our spring concert season! Please check our updated spring concert schedule at each Monday nite band practice and the GCB website:
April 16 LDS choir and GCB at Sugar Hill LDS Stake
April 17 formal concert, patriotic music, community invited!
May 4 GCB at Delmar Gardens
May 7 GCB at Barefoot in the Park in Duluth
May 23 GCB at Clairmont Oaks
School Cancelled – No Practice. See you on the 24th.
I hope everyone’s new year is off to a good start. At this time it sounds like we will have two to six inches of snow Monday morning. If this happens school will be canceled and we will not be able to practice until the 24th.
At the next two rehearsals we will pass out a lot of pieces to add to your folder.
If schools are not closed Monday and we are able to practice, I hope to get through the list below along with several marches on concert size manuscript that we are considering in order to replace the small march size music.
Again, we will not rehearse on the 17th because it is MLK Day. The following rehearsal will be on the 24th. I’m hoping the weather Monday is not a problem and that we can practice Monday, but if not I’ll see you on the 24th.
Jack
Are you ready for some great music from the Gwinnett Community Band in 2011? We will be looking at such great music as Ammerland, 1812 Overture, Porgy and Bess, Largo Al Factotum (Barber of Seville Baritone solo), Gabriel’s Oboe from the Movie – The Mission, and several Sousa marches on concert size manuscript arranged in a way that Sousa would have done them in a concert.
Stay tuned for more news early in 2011. Tell your friends & family to follow us on Facebook here.

Join us to meet our band members and learn more about Gwinnett’s premier all-volunteer community band. We play concerts in a variety of venues, and our performances feature a range of music from foot-stomping marches and musical scores to sing-along Big Band tunes and hymns.
The Gwinnett Community Band is actively recruiting players of all instruments: woodwinds, brass and percussion. We especially need clarinet, French horn and bassoon players. Dust off that music case; tune up your horn; have a cookie at the open house and stay over to play a few tunes.
We hope you will join us for our 2010 Fall Open House and become a member of the Gwinnett Community Band!
